Karl Stefanovic's measly split agreement

Earning a reported $3 million per year, Karl Stefanovic is Australia's most well-paid television star – yet he will receive just $500,000 from his shared assets with his ex-wife.

Now that Karl and Cassandra Thorburn have finalised the end of their marriage, she will reportedly take the bulk of their joint assets, collecting $6 million in cash and property.

“There was always the sense that it would be a big [amount] and obviously not in his favour,” one of Karl's friends told the Daily Telegraph.

“He was quite prepared to walk away with nothing, hand everything over with the one condition that he be able to see his children whenever he wanted."

According to New Idea Karl and Cassandra's relationship hit breaking point at the 2016 Logie Awards.

"They had a big fight at the Logies because she couldn't find him because he was off getting drunk," an insider told the magazine.

The source added that while fans have been surprised by the news, it didn't shock those at Channel Nine.

"No-one at Nine was surprised when they heard they had split," the insider said.

"He had been fed-up with being married to her. She was constantly fed-up and nagging him because he was... getting trashed all the time."
