Duchess Camilla opens up on backlash
The Duchess of Cornwall has broken her silence on the early years of her marriage to Prince Charles, revealing the struggle of trying to please a public that made it clear it was not on her side.
Camilla, formerly Camilla Parker-Bowles, said it was extremely difficult to pick up the pieces after her affair with Charles was revealed.
"It was horrid. It was a deeply unpleasant time and I wouldn't put my worst enemy through it," the Duchess told the Mail on Sunday.
"I couldn't have survived it without my family."
The revelation came from Princess Diana's famous 1995 interview with royal biographer Andrew Morton.
"For about a year... I couldn't really go anywhere," the Duchess said.
"But the children came and went as normal – they just got on with it – and so did great friends."
