Steve Smith's fairytale New York engagement

Six years after they met at a bar, Steve Smith and Danis Willlis are set to wed, with the Australian cricket captain popping the question in New York.

Standing at the top of the Rockefeller building, Steve presented his longtime love with a stunning diamond engagement ring.

"Today I got down on one knee and @dani_willis said YES 🍾💍," Steve, 28, wrote on Instagram alongside a selfie of them both, with Dani's new sparkler in the foreground.

Dani, 26, posted the same image with the caption, "The beginning of forever @steve_smith49 💍 #engaged".

The law student met the sportsman in 2011.

"She's always there for me when I'm around," Steve told Fairfax in 2014.

"She always gives me good advice, and tells me the truth. It's nice that you have some honest feedback to come home to all the time. She's been terrific for me over the last few years."
