This is when women lose interest in sex

Everyone knows that keeping the spark alive can quickly turn into an uphill battle as your relationship becomes more serious.

But now researchers think they know exactly when things start to fizzle out a little in the bedroom – and the results might surprise you.

Contrary to what you may think, a research paper published in BMJ Open found that women generally lose interest in sex in their relationship sooner than men.

After surveying 5,000 men and close to 7,000 women in Britain, they found that one third of the women said that they had lost interest in sex for at least three months of the past year.

In contrast, only 15 per cent of the men said the same thing.

They also found that women who have been in a relationship for over a year reported having a lower sex drive than women who have been dating their partner for less than a year.

And just when you thought moving in together was an important milestone, the report also concluded that women who live with their partner are more at risk of having a lower sex drive than those who don’t!

Unsurprisingly, this lack of interest in sex is often linked to other underlying issues in the relationship, so the year mark doesn't have to mean your sex life drops off a cliff.

Lead author Professor Cynthia Graham said, “Our findings show us the importance of the relational context in understanding low sexual interest in both men and women.

“For women in particular, the quality and length of relationship and communication with their partners are important in their experience of sexual interest.”

So the secret to keeping the romance alive? Don't stop talking!
