This is the tell-tale sign your partner is cheating

Forget furtively flicking through your partner’s phone, experts say there’s one tell-tale sign your significant other is cheating – and it’s much more obvious than any secret text.

In a new study published in the journal of Evolutionary Psychology, research suggests the sound of your partner’s voice could be the dead giveaway they’re seeing someone else.

The study saw raters hear voice samples of 152 people who self-reported if they had or hadn’t cheated on their partner, counting from 1 to 10.

Researchers used voices that were as similar as possible in terms of “voice attractiveness, age, voice pitch, and other acoustic measures”, and created a higher-pitch and lower-pitch version to see if this affected the results.

“We found that participants indeed rated the voices of those who had a history of cheating as more likely to cheat,” researchers revealed.

Findings suggested the change in pitch didn’t appear to affect results – except in the case of lower-pitched females which researchers say could be due to a perception of huskier voiced women seen as flirtatious.

While researchers say they don’t know exactly why humans are so good at analysing voices, pitch is said to play a role, as well as vocal cues such as pauses in conversation.

“For example, masculine males tend to display less clarity in their speech and show phonetic patterns indicative of masculinity, which in turn could be associated with infidelity threat,” psychology professor Susan M. Hughes told The Washington Post.
