Prince Harry and Meghan could actually be cousins

With an engagement announcement supposedly imminent, this might not be the news Prince Harry and girlfriend Meghan wanted to hear.

New analysis of the pair’s ancestry has revealed that even though they were born 8,800kms apart, their families might be closer than we think.

In fact, new reports suggest that Prince Harry, born and raised in Kensington, London, and actress Meghan Markle, originally from California, could actually be long-lost cousins.

The Mail on Sunday has reported that after extensive digging, Meghan’s roots can be traced back to a 15th century English family that were very well connected.

Her dad Thomas Markle is said to be distantly related to a Ralph Bowes – the High Sheriff of County Durham. He had widespread estates based at Streatlam Castle and lived from 1480-1518.

Generations later the family Markle line moved to the United States, which is where Meghan was eventually born.

But on the other side of the tree, the Bowes married into the Lyon family. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon then joined the Royal Family when she married the Duke of Yoke – who went on to become King George VI. None other than Queen Elizabeth II’s father.
