Woman's bittersweet prank on husband before she passed away

A woman with a wicked sense of humour decided to leave behind one last prank before she passed away, and four years after her death, her husband has finally uncovered it.

Her daughter Antonia Nicol, took to Twitter this week to share the bittersweet moment her dad realised he’d been tricked.

“Before my mum passed away, she gave my dad strict instructions to water the plants in the bathroom,” she explains.

“He's been religiously watering them and keeping them alive.”

He did such a good job in fact, that he thought they looked good enough to take to his new home when it was time to move, at which point he discovered they were actually made of plastic.

“Can hear my mum chuckling,” Antonia writes alongside a photo of her dad pretending to water his fake plants, “It would have tickled her so much to know that he's actually done it”.

Antonia’s mum passed away at age 69 after a five-year battle with cancer.

She explains that after being with her dad since they were 16-years-old, she believes her mum wanted to leave him a daily responsibility to take care of as he came to terms with his grief.

“Honestly, we were all so proud of my dad being so dedicated to caring for her plants,” Antonia says, “[It] gave him something to do”.

She tells Indy100 that her parents had “been together all their lives. They worked together.”

“It was an absolute tragedy that they never got to spend their old age together.”

With more than 39K retweets of her story, Antonia can’t believe how many people have resonated with her dad’s experience, and says her mum would have loved it.

“It's so lovely to hear my friends and family talking and remembering my mum again. She would have loved this so much.”
