Why the Queen won’t be at Harry and Meghan’s wedding

The whole world have been awaiting a wedding announcement ever since it was confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were an official couple.

Now that the news is out and preparations for the big day are getting underway, there's one question that remains unanswered; will the Queen attend?

Meghan, 36, has been married once before, which makes things complicated for Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, who is the head of the Church of England.

Even though she has clearly given the prince permission to marry the Suits actress, the British Monarch should technically not support the second marriage of a divorcee.

In fact, Elizabeth is only Queen herself because her uncle King Edward VIII, was forced to abdicate the throne to his brother (Elizabeth's father George VI) so that he would be able to marry twice-divorced American socialite Wallis Simpson.

It's also been speculated that the Queen's disapproval of divorced war-hero Captain Peter Townsend, was the reason her sister Princess Margaret never married him.

When Prince Charles married Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005, the Queen and her husband Prince Philip did not attend the ceremony despite giving their permission of the marriage.

Instead, the Queen and Prince Phillip were present at the wedding reception which is what you might expect them do with Harry and Meghan's nuptials.

Meghan's first marriage was a short lived one and she divorced her ex-husband Trevor Engelson in 2013, just two years after they tied the knot.
