Love Island producers slammed for cast's 'lack of diversity'

There’s only a few sleeps to go till Australia’s first season of Love Island hits screens.

But the Channel Nine show has already received some backlash on social media since the cast was revealed earlier this week.

Twitter users have been quick to point out the cast appears to be ‘all-white’, and they’re not happy about the ‘lack of cultural diversity’.

“I’ve never watched a show like this. But the advert kinda demonstrates why I grew up in Australia never thinking a person with a darker shade of skin or different features (like myself) was even remotely attractive,” wrote media commentator Yassmin Abdel-Magied.

“And I’m not even really dark skinned. Hot damn,” she added.

Meanwhile another Twitter user wrote: “I should say that all-white video surprises me, but sadly it doesn’t.

“It would be great, one day, to have an Australian show that reflects its multicultural (and LGBT) diversity.”

Channel Nine declined to comment on this when approached by Be.

The new cast of Love Island has been introduced by the network as “ten single Aussies” who “are ready to find love in Spain’s party island”.

Amongst the group of romantic hopefuls is a prison officer, animal trainer, radio presenter, trainee nurse, and yes you guessed it, an Instagram model.

Love Island premieres on Sunday night at 8:30pm on Channel Nine.
