The love and sex advice Jane Fonda, 80, would give to her younger self

After turning 80 last year, Jane Fonda had a realisation – she was well and truly done with sex and dating.

But when chatting to Be at the Australian premiere of the Book Club in Sydney, that didn’t stop the actress reflecting on her younger years and revealed the love and sex advice she would give her younger self.

She insisted love and sex “are very different things”.

“You can have sex without love and you can have love without sex,” Jane told Be. “The ideal is when they both come together.”

Jane admitted there’s one thing she overlooked when she was younger – and explained many other young people overlook it too – when it comes to relationships.

“One thing you don’t tend to look for when you’re young is kindness,” she said. “It didn’t occur to me until I was in my 70s that one should look for kindness.”

The actress then shared some wise words which will definitely resonate with a lot of people when it comes to finding love.

“This is the best advice I can give,” she said. “You have to feel seen, safe and celebrated and if you don’t feel those things it’s [not worth it].”

Touché, Jane. Touché.

The star has been married three times and up until last year she had been in a long-term relationship with American record producer Richard Perry.

The couple starting dating in 2009 and but parted ways in 2017.

Earlier this year Jane admitted she had well and truly closed up shop when it came to sex and love.

“I’m not dating anymore, but I did up until a couple of years ago,” she told Extra at the US premiere of the Book Club.

Why though? The Oscar-winning actress put it down to her age.

“I’m 80. I’ve closed up shop down there!” she joked on the red carpet.

The film – now out in Australian theatres – explores the story of four friends Vivian (Jane), Sharon (Candice Bergen), Carol (Mary Steenburgen) and Diane (Diane Keaton) who read Fifty Shades of Grey as the novel of choice for their monthly book club.

It makes the four friends rethink their personal relationships, both physically and romantically.
