On Friday afternoon, multiple outlets reported 26-year-old rapper Mac Miller died of an apparent overdose. On Friday evening, Miller's record label released a statement. Tom Corson, the Warner Bros. Records' Co-Chairman and COO, said:

"All of us at Warner Bros. Records are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news of Mac Miller’s untimely passing. Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and a sense of humor that touched everyone he met. Mac’s death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life and a talent of huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless. We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends."

While it's been reported that Miller's cause of death was an apparent overdose, his label did not include comment on the actual cause of his death.

Throughout his career, Miller was vocal about his struggle with substance abuse. In May 2018, Miller crashed his car into a utility pole and was arrested for driving under the influence. Reportedly, Miller left the scene and later confessed to the police at his home.

According to a CNN source, the Los Angeles coroner's office will conduct an investigation into Miller's death.

Miller entered the music scene in 2007 as a member of a hip hop group before going solo, releasing his own mixtapes, signing an independent record label deal, and releasing his first studio album, Blue Slide Park, in 2011.

Just last month Miller released his critically-acclaimed fifth studio album, Swimming. Miller was preparing to go on tour, which was scheduled to start in October, and on Thursday, he tweeted about how excited he was to perform.
