I tried Macca's new fries, here's the verdict

When Macca's announced they'd be opening a fries-only concept store in Sydney's Glebe for three days, I was more excited than a kid who'd received a Happy Meal for the first time.

Many would agree the best thing about McDonald's is their thin French fries - they're golden, crispy and utterly addictive.

Fry-day May 27 marks the launch of Fries With That, the world's first ever Macca's pop up dedicated to serving only fries and all for FREE! Yes, I repeat, FOR FREE!

Luckily getting to the Glebe Point Road store is easy as chips, and conveniently, there's a bus stop right outside for public transport takers.

Fries With That pop up is located at 166 Glebe Point Road, Sydney.

The fry shop already had people queuing up before 10am, despite the doors only opening at 11am to hungry Sydneysiders. No doubt as the days tick by, the lines will only get bigger, perhaps even spiral around the block like a curly fry.

Yahoo7 Lifestyle was invited for a pre-opening taste test of the six new flavours, the most popular of which will be added permanently to Macca's Loaded Fries menu around Oz.

There's Sour Cream and Sweet Chilli, Caesar, Pesto and Parmesan, Curry, Chipotle Cheese Sauce and Peri-Peri Cheese Sauce.

So, I bet you're drooling already?

Before digging in, I asked some of the staff and organisers of the store who had already tried them which flavours were their favourite. Peri-Peri seemed to be the go.

I took note but wanted to walk in the store with my eyes wide open, stomach empty and mind up for anything.

Waiters in trendy denim aprons embellished with Macca’s fries emblems presented us with a smorgasbord of Loaded Fries flavours to taste test. After food porn pics we went for the kill.

Here's the verdict:

Pesto and Parmesan: Quite creamy, not such an obvious pesto flavour on the palate but loved the addition of shaved Parmesan on the fries. A few people were into this one but it certainly was not the most popular.

Sour Cream and Sweet Chilli: First thought is that this combo is meant for potato wedges, but sweet chilli drizzled fries are quite addicting and the sour cream adds the cool factor one needs after taking heat. Quite impressed!

Caesar: Love the bacon bits, really tastes like caesar dressing - except that it’s not on salad - it’s on chips! Don’t know if I could eat too much of these but A++ for aesthetics.

Curry: Not my fav, quite similar to the Gravy, which is already on the Loaded Fries Macca’s menu and also on the pop up store menu. I’d prefer to eat an actual curry.

Chipotle Cheese Sauce: I originally thought this one was going to be my favourite taste test, but after the first bite, my initial thought was that it was too cheesy. A few other people who had ordered this flavour agreed the cheese sauce was a little overpowering. I was hoping it would be a bit more spicy.

Peri-Peri Cheese Sauce: This was the winner. Peri-Peri had the spice factor I was hoping for and totally lived up to my expectations. Although it is also smothered with the same Cheese Sauce as the Chipotle flavour - the spice heroes through and cuts the richness of the cheese perfectly.

So the verdict…. Peri-Peri wins! Sour Cream and Sweet Chilli rain in at second place while Caesar rakes in at number three.
