Radio hosts Dan Debuf and Maz Compton were replaced by The Sam & Rove Show on 2Day FM back in 2015.
Now Maz has opened up about her controversial sacking in the latest Game Changers podcast.
Speaking with renowned radio producer, Craig Bruce, the former presenter revealed she read the devastating news in newspaper.
“Dan had sent me a text and I think the text said, ‘LOL,’ and it was a link to a newspaper article about how Rove McManus was taking over the Sydney breakfast show," she said. “I thought, that’s funny, because that’s my job."
Just a few hours later she received a call telling her she would "no longer doing the breakfast show the following year".
The pair had only been on the air for 10 months at the time, making way for Rove & Sam who would later also be axed.
Ever since Kyle & Jackie O left the brekkie show to go to KIIS FM, the station has been struggling with the early morning ratings.
The Bachelorette's Sophie Monk even struggled to pull in the listeners along with her co-hosts Jules Lund and Merrick Watts the year before.
Reflecting on the pressure of such a high profile gig, Maz revealed she struggled.
“I was carrying this load of, ‘I’ve got to succeed or I’m letting everyone down. If this doesn’t work I’m letting down Da, all of our producers, my manager who had sadly passed away months before... I’m letting down my family.’"
Two years on though, Maz now runs two gyms with her hubby, Glen Naveau, released a tell-all e-book and has also been a Be columnist.
Sounds like you've moved on to great things, Maz.
