Why Meghan is finding it hard to get on with Prince Harry's friends

She’s an advocate for women’s rights and is a big animal lover who is against hunting.

But while many members of the public might applaud her political views, there are apparently some people in Prince Harry’s circle of friends who are anything but supportive of the Duchess of Sussex’s beliefs.

According to a royal source, Meghan Markle is thriving in her royal life but is reportedly struggling to bond with Prince Harry’s friends.

“Her politics are an issue,” Lady Colin Campbell, who was a close friend of Lady Diana’s, said in an interview with The Daily Beast.

“She is ultra-liberal and that trendy-lefty stuff does not go down well with some of Harry’s friends.

“He has introduced her to them all at parties and weddings and private dinners, but she is very anti- a lot of the things that their world functions upon, such as shooting.”

Indeed, it was reported back in December that Prince Harry missed the royal family’s annual Christmas hunt out of respect for his fiancé’s views on the killing of animals.

Meghan Markle is also reported to have completely overhauled Prince Harry’s pantry with healthy food and introduced him to yoga.

The Duchess of Sussex is no doubt finding it hard to obey the royal rule of not speaking about her political views, especially considering how outspoken she was in the past.

Her UN Women speech on ‘speaking up for your values’ has over eight million views on YouTube.

In July, Meghan seemed to slip up when she was on her first official overseas trip with Prince Harry to Ireland.

The 37-year-old broke royal protocol by revealing that she was pleased the Irish people voted ‘Yes’ in the abortion referendum.

In a tweet posted to Twitter, Senator Catherine Noone, who met the Duchess at a garden party at the British Embassy in Dublin, claimed Meghan was ‘pleased to see the result’.

“A pleasure to meet Prince Harry & the Duchess of Sussex at the British Ambassador’s Residence this evening,” Senator Noone started the tweet.

“The Duchess & I had a chat about the recent referendum result – she watched with interest & was pleased to see the result.”

The senator deleted the tweet not long after, following replies from her followers about the royal rule Meghan had broken.

“I clarified – it was a very benign chat, she expressed no political opinion. She was interested and charming,” Senator Noone later said.

“It was misleading so I deleted it.”

Traditionally, members of the royal family are supposed to refrain from showing any political views and are not allowed to vote.
