Why Meghan hardly spent time with Harry on her birthday

For her first birthday as a member of the royal family, you would think all the attention would have been on Meghan Markle turning 37 over the weekend, however that wasn’t exactly the case.

Instead, Meghan spent her day as a guest at the wedding of Prince Harry’s friend Charlie van Straubenzee, and actually barely even got to spend time with Harry at all.

Not only did the pair arrive at the church in Surrey separately, yet they also weren’t allowed to sit together during the ceremony which had many royal watchers speculating why.

And the reason is that Harry had the important duty of being best man on the day – returning the favour after Charlie was by his side as an usher for his wedding to Meghan in May.

Prior to the ceremony, friends and groomsmen of Charlie decided to treat him to lunch and a few drinks at The Anchor Inn in Hampshire village of Lower Froyle.

“It was all very relaxed. They were in a private dining room off the restaurant, Harry stayed there the whole time…looked like he was having a good time,” an onlooker told Hello!.

Meanwhile, Meghan was fending for herself in Churt village – a 20 minute drive away – and enjoying her own pre-wedding lunch at the Bel & The Dragon, with some of the other ladies attending the wedding.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex then arrived separately at around 3pm on Saturday and weren’t seen much together until after the ceremony.

Meghan was looking as flawless as ever, dressed in a $700 short-sleeve button-down navy Club Monaco dress featuring more colour in the pleated skirt.

She accessorised with black pumps by Aquazzura, a belt and clutch by Kayu Design and an elegant black fascinator by Phillip Treacy.

However, while they may not have spent much time together, once they were reunited the pair looked inseparable, walking hand in hand and completely smitten with each other.
