Meghan Markle breaks protocol in tuxedo mini dress, just like Diana

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry broke a month-long hiatus from the public eye on Wednesday evening as they attended a gala performance of Hamilton at Victoria Palace Theatre in London.

The evening will raise awareness and funds for the work Harry’s charity, Sentebale, does for children and young people affected by HIV.

For the occasion, the Duchess of Sussex stunned in a AU$580 tuxedo dress which diced with protocol, at roughly five inches above the knee.

But while she may not have conformed to the usual royal tradition of covered knees, she was actually following in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, who wore a strikingly similar tuxedo mini dress to her own charity event back in 1996.

For her night out, Meghan chose to wear little-known Canadian brand Judith & Charles, who boast a modest 6,000 followers on their collective social media channels — a number we expect to skyrocket very soon.

The Duchess paired the look with simple, black pointy court shoes and a black clutch.

As for her beauty look, Meghan swapped her signature daytime low-bun for a higher evening style, wearing it with a dark smoky eye and nude lips.

Prince Harry arrived beside his wife wearing formal black tie.

Ahead of the show, the Duke and Duchess met with Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as the cast.

For royal watchers happy to see the couple back in the public eye, we’re next due to see them on Sept. 4 at the Well Child Awards.
