Melissa George hints at Home and Away return

Melissa George has hinted that she may return to Home and Away, six years after her infamous rant about how much she hates being known for her role on the Aussie soap.

The 41-year-old has surprised fans of the show ahead of its 30th anniversary next week, by admitting she’s been contemplating a comeback as her character, Angel.

“They have offered, but I don’t know,” she told Sydney Confidential.

Despite trying to distance herself from her Summer Bay days, she said she’s now admitted defeat in that department.

“It is a hard thing to shake and at one point I tried to shake it, but there is no point,” she added.

Melissa’s latest comments are a major turnaround.

The mum-of-two angered Home and Away fans back in 2012, when she had an epic rant at Morning Show hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur for introducing her as a “Home and Away actress”, rather than discussing her current work.

She then made things worse when she said she’d “rather be having a croissant in Paris or walking my French bulldog in New York City”.

“I’m not going to be a good Aussie any more. I’m going to speak out. I’ve just had it,” she told The Herald Sun.

“I’ve never spoken out about it because I have to be the loyal good Aussie who goes away and comes home but I’m really hard-working and people have to respect me for what I’ve done.”

Last year she apologised for upsetting Australia with her remarks whilst appearing on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, but denied the comments were ever said the way they were perceived.

“I never said that at all. We were laughing and I never said anything negative about my country… it was all swapped around and put out of context,” she told the radio hosts.

“I’m sorry if I offended anyone with my humour — I mean well.”

While Mellisa teasing she could return to our screens one day has excited many ahead of the shows 30th anniversary next week, some are struggling to handle the seemingly sudden turnaround.

Melissa played Angel Parish from 1993 until 1996, when her character emigrated to the UK.

Guess we’ll have to tune in to Channel Seven’s TV special, Endless Summer – 30 Years of Home and Away, next week to find out more.
