Men reveal why they ghost their dates

Ghosting – or completely ceasing all communication without warning, for those who don’t know - is one of the greatest evils of modern dating. So why do people do it?

Sydney radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O tried to get to the bottom of it today and grilled a couple of offenders on what exactly made them disappear.

One guy, Mick, revealed that he ghosted his date after an unsavoury encounter in the bedroom.

“There was a lot of awkward sex,” he explained, “and it turned me off when she wanted to kiss me afterwards.”

When asked why he didn’t simply talk to her about it, he said he preferred ghosting because, “it’s just easier to get away from the situation kinda thing.”

Or as Jackie pointed out, he was “gutless”.

Meanwhile on secret sharing website Whisper, one person confessed that they ghosted because their date “had stronger feelings than me and it was causing stress.”

“It wasn’t an official relationship but there was no connection and it seemed like she just wanted to be friends,” another person said. “Every date was so platonic and we just weren’t clicking.”

A third person wrote: “because sometimes that’s the only way someone will get the message. I tried being upfront about it but that didn’t work. So it was the only option I had left.”

It seems hard to imagine that the other two people didn’t have other options…

On the other side of the equation, women shared some of the horror stories that led them to ghost their dates.

“He called me a ‘b***h’ because I wouldn’t go get him cereal. I was done. Final straw,” one woman said.

“After one date he said I was his girlfriend (didn’t ask), and wanted to see my phone so he could delete all the men who weren’t related to me from my phone (I said no),” another woman recounted.

“I got away and blocked him asap. Never online dated again.”

But the cake has to go to this man who told Kyle and Jackie O that he has been ghosting women for the fun of it for over a decade!

“I just milk them, just try to get everything I can - money, shopping, shoes - whatever it is, I just milk them,” Ali confessed.

Basically, he pretends to be the perfect boyfriend so he can be spoilt rotten and then when he gets bored, he vanishes off the face of the earth.

“I’ve been doing it for 10 years, “ he said, “I lead them on to the extent, and then change my number.”

“It’s for the thrills I get out of it, not for the money, and my mates just love it.”

Ali added that he’s treated at least 30 women in this way and is “still going”. All we can say is shame on him.
