Meshel Laurie reveals how she dealt with bullies

A few weeks ago, Meshel Laurie defended her son against school bullies on Twitter.

Now, the mother of twins Dali and Louis, says her “inner bogan” roots helped her face up to the mean kids back in the day.

Speaking to Mamamia‘s parenting podcast This Glorious Mess, the 42-year-old reflected on how different school was when she was a kid.

For starters, kids wouldn’t comment on each other’s food in the eighties, but even if they did, Meshel would have given the kid them the old “what for”.

Laughing about her own tweet, she said; “I know I tweeted that I wanted to tell my my son to tell the kid to ‘f*** off’, but in reality, I did tell my kid to tell the other kid to ‘f*** off’.”

“He was like, ‘Your mum needs to make you some sandwiches, man’, ” she added.

“When ‘Lunchbox Larry’ pipes up tomorrow, I want you tell him from me that he can get ‘effed,” she said. “And if he has an issue with your lunch, he can come and see me, I’m there at 3:15pm every day.”

Louis then told her off: “That is not how we handle it, Mum”.

At the beginning of the month, Meshel shared her outrage after her eight-year-old son Louis was bullied over a homemade chocolate chip biscuit.

“My son was bullied at school today because he had an unhealthy snack (homemade chic chip cookie),” [sic] the TV presenter tweeted. “School. has. changed.”

She then added: “I wish that ‘bully’ could go back in time to my primary school in Toowoomba in the early 80’s for just one little lunch. Cookies were biscuits, shoes were optional, and bullies were not known for their health food programs”.
