How model's miracle child changed her life
After being treated for stage three cervical cancer in her early twenties and then suffering three miscarriages almost a decade later, Nikki Phillips’ life changed forever when she fell pregnant and welcomed miracle son Jett last July.
“It’s the most incredible thing in the world,” she tells Be of motherhood.
The 35-year-old says she’d always heard stories about being a mum, but nothing could prepare her till she experienced it herself.
“People can tell you what you want but I think you physically have to be in it,” she says.
“It’s the most rewarding job in the world.”
As she continues modelling and running her successful blog while looking after Jett, Nikki admits the challenges she faces in terms of balancing her career and motherhood.
“Honestly, you have hard days. I’m not going to lie,” she explains.
“There are hard days and the juggle definitely is hard also but I wouldn’t take anything back in the world. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
So how does Nikki do it?
The runway sensation says she still makes a point of keeping up appearances and attending industry events, and if that means she doesn’t see her little boy at night, she makes up for that time earlier on.
“Being mum’s my first priority so I want to be able to put him to bed or if I can’t put him to bed, to be able to be there in the afternoon,” explains Nikki.
Nikki and husband Dane welcomed Jett back in July last year, after the model had revealed she’d suffered three miscarriages in the prior two years.
She was previously treated for stage three cervical cancer at age 23, discovered during a routine pap smear.
Nikki and Dane announced the model was pregnant back in February 2017.
“We can not wait to meet our little miracle. I’ve always dreamed of being a mother, but never knew it could be…” Nikki wrote on Instagram at the time.
