The most ridiculous tax claims ever made

Tax time is upon us. And while we sift through a year’s worth of receipts to work out what we can claim there are some things you should definitely steer clear of.

The basic rule when it comes to claiming something is this – if you’ve incurred an expense as part of your job you are good to go.

However, many try to take advantage of this by putting things forward that are so outrageous, even we are rolling our eyes.

Mark Chapman, from H&R Block, has revealed some of the more outlandish claims taxpayers have tried to make over the years.

And they definitely aren’t of the typical variety.

“If you are claiming something unusual, expect to be challenged by the ATO, but if the way you earn your assessable income is aligned with the items you’ve claimed a deduction for, you should be OK, no matter how strange it is,” Mark said.
