Mum blasted online over ‘ridiculous' plan to scrap school holidays

A mum has caused quite the stir online after sharing what she believed to be a ‘genius idea’ to scrap school holidays altogether.

Posting to the online forum Mumsnet she asked: “Why we don’t just do away with [school holidays] entirely?”

She even had the whole idea planned out.

“Run schools like a regular workplace in that they operate 52 weeks of the year,” she explained.

“Teachers and students to get four weeks allocated holiday allowance per year and parents can use this at their discretion,” she continued, while further suggesting teachers would then have more time to teach at a realistic pace.

“Am I missing why this isn’t a genius idea?” she prompted.

The suggestion sparked an overwhelming number of responses from fellow mums, with many claiming the idea is ‘ridiculous.’

“Perhaps because children don’t run the same way as adults?” one parent replied.

While another made the point, “The kids would burn out, never mind the teachers”.

Some mums even went so far as to shame her, by suggesting she didn’t have her kids’ best interests at heart and claimed she just didn’t want to deal with school holidays.

“School doesn’t exist purely to facilitate working parents,” someone snapped.

Not everyone was against her though, as some mums recognised that the long summer holidays can be ‘detrimental” for kids and teachers and agreed there could be a better alternative.

“I actually think you’re right,” one parent wrote.
