Mum shares Kmart hack for dumped friend

When it comes to supporting your friends, there’s the old staples of tea, a shoulder to cry on and bucket loads of ice-cream.

But when one Aussie woman found out her friend’s partner had decided to up and leave her and their nine-year-old daughter and son, seven, she knew she needed to do something more.

Jess Palmer decided to head to her local Kmart to put together a survival kit for her friend, to help her get through the horror situation.“My friend was completely in love with her partner,” Jess told Mamamia.

“They had been together for about eighteen months, and we all thought he was her ‘penguin’, because she’d met him after a bad marriage and he made her happy.

“But on Saturday morning, he got up early for work and said to her before he left, ‘I can’t take this anymore. I’m leaving you and the kids’.”

Jess then wrote the most heartfelt note, explaining exactly she had chosen the items in the break-up kit and what they represented.

“Face masks – to hide from the world when you need to,” Jess wrote

“Rubber bands – to help you bounce back.

“Glitter – to add some sparkle back into your life.

“Shampoo – to wash that man right out of your hair.”

After sharing the gift pack on Kmart Mums Facebook page, the post went viral and was liked thousands of times, with many praising Jess for her kindness and compassion.

With Jess admitting her friend was overcome with emotion when she received the survival, the mum-of-three said it was something anyone would do.

“I don’t see it as going above and beyond – that’s what friends do,” she told Mamamia.
