Mum's horrifying cake smash is a total hit

A mum’s terrifying idea for a cake smash for her son is giving us all sorts of spooky vibes.

Liz, from Victoria, decided to do something a little different when she was putting together invitations for her son’s first birthday.

The mum is a member of a Facebook group that shares cake creations, and wanted to do a cake smash photo shoot for the invitations to Alex’s birthday, which happens to also fall on the spookiest day of the year – Halloween!

“I was so excited when I found out we were having a Halloween baby, so I’ve been plotting for a year,” Liz tells Be.

Using two simple sponge cakes, some cream cheese, and pureed raspberries, Liz served up a very convincing human brain cake for little Alex to tear apart, all while he dressed up as an adorable zombie.

“I’m not much of a baker so I was pretty happy with the end result,” Liz tells us. “Then we just set him up in the backyard, used a little bit of eyeshadow, and a torn shirt.”

Liz says they ended up loving the photos so much that they decided to turn them into a horror movie trailer, which they sent to their family and friends as the official invitations. Check it out below.

“Our family share our sense of humour and we are always joking, because Alex is such a sweet and gentle child, but in photos he has this angry scowl on his face. So we joke that he is actually a little monster,” Liz says.

Liz was so stoked with the end result of her creation she also shared it to the cake group on Facebook.

“I wasn’t sure about sharing it at first because I was worried that there could be a bit of negativity, but we had great reactions, most people thought it was hilarious,” she says.

As for the actual party, it will of course be halloween themed dress up.

“I’m actually worried I’ve set the bar too high now.”
