Mum's genius hack for spare Coles Little Shop minis

A thrifty mum has come up with a genius way to store leftover Coles Little Shop collectables — by turning them into fridge magnets.

Alannah Koch from Melbourne used $6 magnetic tape from Kmart to turn her spare items from the supermarket craze into an adorable addition to her kitchen.

The mum of one told Be that the hack was born out of her desire to not waste plastic, after successfully collecting all 30 of the keepsakes for her 16-month-old son Oakland.

“I was sitting at home one day with all these spare minis and I thought, ‘What am I going to do with them?’ as it was such a waste,” she said.

“I like to be a bit creative and am into DIY anyways, so I was looking through the Kmart catalogue when I saw magnetic tape, and I was like, ‘Ahh, that’s a good idea’.”

The result of her lightbulb moment saw Alannah create 12 cute magnets in just minutes, by simply sticking the magnetic tape to the back of the collectables.

“It’s super easy to do, the tape is just like normal tape, you just rip it off where you want it to be and you just stick it on,” the 26-year-old explained.

The cheap hack has proved popular with her friends and family, who Alannah says “love” the idea, and it is also gathering attention on her Instagram page, New Mummy Life.

She added that the minis were the perfect tool to pin up her son’s drawings and paintings that he brings home from daycare.

Coles caused chaos when they launched the minis campaign, giving customers the chance to collect iconic household brands, such as Vegemite, Nutella and Mount Franklin Water when they spent over $30.

It’s been so popular the supermarket giant extended the promotion and have also hosted ‘swap’ days for frustrated collectors looking to finish their sets.
