Mum’s outrageous ad for $4 per hour ‘personal slave’
Moving house is never fun, so when one busy mum decided to post an ad on Facebook for some “extra hands” to help, it made sense.
What didn’t make sense though was her outrageously long list of jobs and ridiculously low wage, which quickly saw social media slam the Perth woman and accuse her of slave labour.
In a post that was shared on the Daily Mail, the mum claimed she was in the process of moving house and needed someone to help her move every day. While she didn’t specify the length of employment, the woman hinted it definitely wouldn’t be a quick job with the lucky employee being paid $500 for every 20 days of help.
Not only does that equate to just over $4 an hour, the job requirements were pretty extensive.
“Every morning we… will be transferring my belongings from my current home to the new (same suburb, using my car) and rearrange,” the ad read.
“Other things to do is House Duties (like vacuum, dishes, folding laundry etc) will be asked but nothing that you wouldn’t do in your own family/house.
“Must be hardworking, clean and have attention to details, get the work done in a timely manner, punctual, good positive attitude, honest.”
With the current minimum wage set at $18.93 an hour in Australia, those reading the mum’s ad were understandably taken aback at how much she was paying.
“So this woman is offering somebody $4 per hour to be her personal slave,” blasted one commenter on Facebook.
“So I called her out on it, and told her that treating people like that is totally unacceptable. So she messages me with really nasty crap, and blocking me right away, so I couldn’t respond. Basically she was saying I humiliated her, and her excuse is, I’m offering you ‘pocket money so it’s ok’.”
Others wondered exactly why it was taking her 20 days to move house, and questioned whether she was using the move as sneaky way to hire a cleaner for her new house.
