Mum's present to ex's partner goes viral for the best reason

A mum’s incredible Mother’s Day present for her three-year-old son’s step-mum has seen her applauded online, with other parents calling it a ‘beautiful gesture’.

Sally Peters, from Tamworth in NSW, decided to make up a box full of Kmart treats for her ex’s partner, as a small token of thanks to the woman who loves her son.

“It was always important to me to form a relationship with her for my son,” Sally told Be.

“I want my son to be loved and happy all the time.

“She loves him like her own and he’s all the better for it.”

Her ex’s partner has been in her son’s life since he was 10-months-old and while she admits their relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing, she said they both have a massive connection, and that’s her son.

“We both want the best for him and we can both do that together,” Sally said.

In the pretty pink box, Sally included a candle, a mug, which reads ‘a day without laughter is a day wasted’, body lotion, nail polish, lip balms, a bath bomb and an exfoliating pouf.

She posted a picture of the present to the Facebook group, Kmart Mums Australia, where it has been commented on by nearly 1,000 people.

The mum-of-two said it wasn’t what she expected and she’s shocked at the responses.

“It’s a small gesture of thanks to someone who loves my son,” Sally said.

While the mum said co-parenting hasn’t always been easy, she knows that her son is the top priority in the whole situation.

“Families come in all shapes and sizes and you can’t limit the amount of love that comes into your child’s life, even if it’s from step-parents or families,” she said.

“Although the step-parent might not have created them, they choose to love and nurture your child and that in itself is really special. How could you not want that?”

People online were quick to commend the mum.

“This is a beautiful gesture which I am sure she will appreciate. Good for you,” one person commented.

“Great that you cherish her and respect her and her back to you. Nice story to hear. You both will be great role models. More often than not we always hear the opposite well down to both of you,” another person said.
