They’re the beauty brand that made headlines when they appointed their first male ambassador James Charles last month, and Covergirl have proved they’re dedicated to diversity by appointing Muslim beauty blogger Nura Afia as their next gorgeous face.
With over 305,000 Instagram followers, Nura’s known for her makeup tutorials – and the fact she proudly wears her hijab in each and every one of them.
“I grew up being insecure about wearing the hijab, and I never thought I would see Muslim women represented on such a large scale,” Nura told Refinery29.
The Denver-based blogger first launched her Youtube page Babylailalov in 2011, and now has over 200,000 subscribers.
“I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we’re important, especially hijabis,” Nura adds.
“We can be featured on TV, can be featured on billboards in Times Square, can be represented.”
