The airline seat nobody wants

A study of 10,000 travellers has revealed an aeroplane seat that's a clear favourite - and one that everyone would rather avoid.

Close to the front of the plane, but not so close that passengers are paying a premium, 7F is the most popular airline seat, the poll by budget carrier EasyJet reveals.

It’s a window seat on the right-hand side of the plane, and passengers in that row are among the first to disembark.

The study found 59 percent of participants would opt for a window seat and 38 percent choose the aisle for easy access.

A measly 3 percent of those surveyed prefer to sit in the middle seat.

Even so, the least popular seat is 19C – an aisle seat roughly near the middle of Easyjet’s Airbus A319.

An airline spokeswoman told news.com.au it's likely because of the perceived distance between row 19 and the toilets that it putting passengers off poor 19C.

Easyjet’s survey also found nationality, age and whether or not people have travel companions all play an important factor in where passengers prefer to sit.

Under 25s are the most eager to sit by the window – probably to take photos for a bit of social media bragging – while older travellers are more likely to choose the aisle (easy access to facilities perhaps?).

EasyJet group commercial director Peter Duffy says: “As passengers get older the aisle becomes increasingly popular and it is also a sought after seat for frequent flyers travelling on business or visiting their second home."

Poll results also indicate females are more likely to prefer the window seat and men the aisle seat.
