Outrage over smoking baby

A photo of a tiny baby with a lit cigarette in her mouth has gone viral after it was shared to Reddit by a disgusted user.

The picture, seemingly originally posted to Instagram, was accompanied by a caption that tried to pass the stunt off as a "joke".

"Trying brittnies cig hahaha [sic]” the original post read. The author of the post's identity has been removed.

"And for everyone getting offended over this she only had one puff of the thing and barely inhaled it was for a joke photo."

The Reddit share triggered a wave of upset among users.

"If she is dumb enough to do this, I'm guessing she was dumb enough to smoke while pregnant as well," one Reddit user wrote. "Poor kid."

Still others shared their own stories of parenting horrors they'd witnessed.

"My niece recently took a picture of her 3 month old in her lap, while she was driving and smoking a joint," wrote one.

"It amazes me that there are still people in this world who are this stupid."

One user put it perfectly.

"Literally EVERY person I know who smokes or who has ever smoked says that they really struggled with the addiction, see no benefit to it whatsoever, and wishes they had never started," wrote user 'Voodootumbleweed.

"The fact that anyone would encourage their child to start and view it as something to be proud of just blows my mind, but especially with a one year old. Your kid pretending to do grown up things like drive or go to work or cook dinner is cute. Your kid with a cigarette in their mouth isn't funny at all."
