Mum rages after sister steals both her baby names

A mum-of-two has revealed her frustration at her sister’s bizarre decision to copy her child’s name — not once, but twice.

Taking to parenting forum Mumsnet, the woman shared her dilemma after her sister announced she’d be naming her unborn child the same name as her sibling’s two-month-old son. She used the platform to ask readers if they thought she was “unreasonable” to think her sister’s choice was “unfair”.

The woman further explains that her sister had already copied her eldest son’s name for her daughter.

“I have 2 sons: Hayden and Oliver,” the woman wrote. “DSis [darling sister] had a daughter after I had Hayden, and she named her child Hayden. I didn’t care too much as she was a girl and mine was a boy.

“My Oliver is 2-months-old, and my sister, who’s now in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy, has announced he’s an Oliver. Different middle names but still! AIBU [Am I Being Unreasonable] to think this is a bit unfair?”

Users were quick to wade into the debate — with many agreeing that the sister’s behaviour was “odd”.

“Tell her to choose her own names and stop copying you,” one wrote.

“It’s f***ing odd. Is she some kind of sociopath?” another added.

“Your sister is a f***ing fruit cake and I think you need to insist she chooses a different name,” noted a third.

While others couldn’t agree that her sibling’s choice was “unfair”, it was nonetheless “bizarre”.

Despite her frustrations, the mom maintains a healthy relationship with her sister:

“We get on and everything. It’s a pretty good relationship,” she noted. “Other family members laugh, although I’m not sure what their honest opinions are. I’m actually a bit sad and I suppose that’s why I said I don’t think it’s fair.”

Siding with the annoyed mum, one person came up with a simple solution: she should ignore her sister’s antics.

“Shows a massive lack of imagination and creativity on your sister’s part but just pity her for that,” the user commented. “Don’t let it annoy you. Anyone who knows both of you will know your children came first and will know she copied you. And anyone who only knows one family and not the other won’t care!”

“Refer to them as Hayden1 (yours) and Hayden2 (hers); Oliver1 (yours) and Oliver2 (hers) when you are all together. Otherwise just ignore. It doesn’t matter. There will be at least 3 other Olivers in your darling sister’s circle of friends as he grows up, it won’t matter one bit that one of them is his cousin.”
