Mum responds to photo of bullied daughter lying in hospital

A mum has revealed that her 12-year-old daughter is “doing much better” after sharing a heartbreaking picture of her lying in a hotel bed.

Leigh Davey, from Perth, uploaded the confronting picture last week, explaining that her daughter, Eva, had attempted suicide after being subjected to extreme bullying.

Now she has taken to Facebook to say that the response from strangers has made the whole family feel “strong”.

The post went viral last week when Leigh detailed exactly what had happened and saying that “bullying needs to stop now”.

“In this age of social media, children (because they are children) think it's ok to send hateful messages (to me also along with their parents who won't take responsibility) without consequences,” Leigh started the post.

“I've had calls from these children calling me an old hag because I've defended our daughter, approached parents and pleaded with them to talk with their children and ask them to stop.

‘I've even approached the children themselves, but been threatened by parents with harassment.”

Leigh went on to say her daughter had been send home on numerous occasions for trying to self-harm and had unwanted videos taken of her by her bullies.

“Last week we spent over 5 hours in A&E with psychiatrists, doctors and nurses, because our girl "had a plan to commit suicide" and on Tuesday I am in court applying for a VRO against a 12-year-old to keep her (the bully) away from our beautiful girl,” Leigh continued.

“All because parents don't accept responsibility for their children and schools can only do so much.”

Leigh went on to plead with parents to check their kids’ phone messages and make sure they are being “polite and respectful”.

“Bullying affects the whole family, not just the bullied. It needs to stop and it needs to stop now,” she finished.

Since the post went viral, Leah has received thousands of comments from people supporting Eva and her family.

The post itself has already been liked over 89,000 times, with 33,000 comments left on the page.

“We've had so many messages of support and it's made us feel so strong albeit overwhelming,” she said.

“Eva is doing much better.”
