Patti Newton 'fed-up' after Bert's 'inappropriate' Logies joke

They may have just announced the exciting news that they are expecting their fifth grandchild, but according to reports, things are tense at Bert and Patti Newton’s house.

Bert came under fire last weekend, after taking to the stage at the Logie Awards to present the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent.

Reflecting on the late comedian, who lends his name to the award, Bert made a joke about Graham “mentoring young talent” that didn’t go down well.

“He enjoyed giving young people a chance on television,” Bert said in his speech.

“He was a great mentor, he mentored a lot of young people.

“You knew if you went to his dressing room and it was locked, he would be inside doing some mentoring.”

While some of the audience laughed, many also gasped awkwardly.

And it seems that Patti wasn’t laughing either, with a source claiming they heard her ‘venting on her phone’.

“She seemed pretty fed-up to say the least,” the source told New Idea.

“Afterwards, they put on a show of being happy and walking around smiling but you could feel the tension rolling off them.”

Patti made sure to put on a happy face when she announced on Instagram that they are set to become grandparents for a fifth time.

“We are all just so excited especially the kids. How lucky are we, can’t wait,” Patti wrote.

The couple’s daughter, Lauren, who already has two daughters and two sons with her husband, Matt Welsh, is due to give birth to her fifth child in December.

“Can’t believe this gorgeous 4 will become 5 at the end of the year! It will be busy but wonderful. I am lucky to have some great little helpers,” Lauren said on her Instagram page.
