People think Melania Trump is trolling the president by doing this

Melania Trump’s little black dress has sprung a new fashion conspiracy theory: She’s standing in solidarity with sexual assault survivors.

The first lady wore a black, collared midi shirt dress to watch her husband speak at the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, where President Trump was slated to speak several times on such topics as sovereignty and Iran.

As often happens, Melania’s outfit churned controversy and speculation.

Many commenters online assumed that her choice to wear the colour black indicated support for the social movement #BelieveSurvivors, which has encouraged people who support sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford, by wearing black clothing and participate in a walkout launched by the #TimesUp movement.

On Monday, Sen. Kamela Harris, D-Calif., and actresses Kerry Washington and Debra Messing expressed their support.

Two weeks ago, a confidential letter written by Ford, a California professor, surfaced, alleging that she had been sexually assaulted at a party when she was in high school.

Ford has also received support for speaking up, prompting the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport to explain why many victims are hesitant to come forward.

On Sunday, a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, accused the man of pulling down his pants and thrusting his penis in her face while they were students at university.

And Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for adult star Stormy Daniels, who alleges that she had an affair with the president in 2006, has teased the possibility that a third accuser will come forward.

While Trump has supported the man, calling the accusations “totally political,” Melania has not conveyed her opinion.

Meanwhile, her outfits — whether a “pussy bow” blouse, a white pantsuit, or a jacket bearing the slogan ‘I don’t care’ — are an endless source of speculation.
