A police officer's simple act of kindness at petrol station goes viral

A police officer is being hailed as a hero after a Facebook post praising his simple act of kindness took off.

Officer Todd Bing was waiting behind Delores Marotta in line at a Citgo petrol station in Michigan, USA, when he heard her ask the attendant inside for $4 of petrol to put in her car, WWJ reports.

According to a Facebook post from the owner of the petrol station, the officer noticed that the woman, who was using a cane, had a difficult time walking back to her vehicle, so he told her to wait in her car and he would pump the gas for her.

Toss and Delores struck up a conversation, and he learned that her husband had recently died. She had trouble making ends meet at the end of every month, and $4 was all she had available for gas.

Todd asked her to wait a moment while he went inside. He gave the station’s owner, Seth Kasyouhanan, $28 out of his own pocket to go toward Delores’s tank.

Seth took to Facebook to share the heartwarming moment and also appreciate the officer’s compassion.

This $20 really helped her! She would of most likely ended up running out of gas,” Kasyouhanan wrote.

Nowadays there’s so much negativity towards police officers. … I’m not saying every officer is perfect, I’m sure some are at fault at times. We all make mistakes- but we should all respect, appreciate, and thank them for what they do… To all the men and women in blue I THANK YOU for your service!”

Seth has set up a GoFundMe page for Delores, writing, “[Delores is] roughly short $1,000 on her bills every month. Some days she has money for gas and groceries and some days she doesn’t. I believe it’s only right to help someone that’s struggling.”

As of yesterday, he had reached over $3,600 of his $5,000 goal.
