While most would agree that a healthy, white smile is more attractive than stained teeth, research by Oral-B reveals that the condition of your pearly whites can also have a significant effect on your perceived age and earning capacity.
Over a thousand Australians were asked to compare the following two photos of the same woman – the left photo showing clean, healthy-looking teeth, and the right revealing yellow, stained teeth. The group was then asked to make assumptions on the age and salary of the woman based on each photograph.
The results demonstrate the power of a healthy-looking smile. Most respondents guessed that the woman on the right, with the whiter, healthier smile, was up to 14 years younger and earning up to $10,000 more than the woman on the left.
So with your smile being one of the first things people notice about you - how do you ensure you are looking at your best and youngest?
Sydney Dentist, Dr Stephen Blatchford discusses the importance of a good dental routine; “If you’re finding your teeth are quite yellow due to the build-up of plaque, you should consider making the switch to a power toothbrush. Oral-B power toothbrushes have been clinically proven to remove up to 2x more plaque than a regular manual brush. They have brushing modes for polishing and deep cleaning which also help to remove surface stains.”
This will give you a reason to smile – Oral-B is offering up to $50 cash back when you make the swap to an Oral-B power brush (valid until September 13). Visit www.oralb.com.au for more details (RRP $99.99 - $199.99).
