Why is Prince Charles celebrating his birthday six months early?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first appearance as a married couple at Prince Charles’s 70th birthday celebrations.

The lavish garden party took place at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

But there’s just one problem, Charles’s birthday isn’t actually until November 14th.

As it turns out, there’s a royal reason for the early celebration.

As this is a milestone birthday for Charles, and he’s next in line to the British throne, there will be a series of celebrations in his honour this year.

Charles isn’t the only royal who will celebrate his birthday more than once, Queen Elizabeth has multiple birthday celebrations, too.

The monarch has a private birthday celebration with family on her actual birth date, April 21, and a public birthday celebration, known as Trooping the Colour, during the summer.

The tradition started with King George II in 1748.

His birthday was in October, but the annual Trooping the Colour became known as a celebration of the king and armed forces.

Since then, the reigning monarch’s official “summer birthday” has been marked by this ceremony, usually held on the second Saturday in June.
