He may have sported a beard for years now, but Prince Harry had to ask the Queen for permission to keep his facial hair for his wedding to Meghan Markle.

The 33-year-old showed up at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle looking dapper in an impeccably tailored Dege & Skinner-tailored frockcoat uniform from the Blues and Royals.

And while we all knew the dashing prince would pull out the all the fashion stops for his beloved bride, royal watchers were unsure whether or not Harry would be allowed to keep his beard on the day.

It was all down to the fact that he was dressed in uniform, which Kensington Palace revealed had been approved by the Queen.

It’s historically been a longstanding rule in the military that servicemen should always been clean-shaven when they are dressed in uniform.

However, it’s believed the Queen granted Harry permission to keep his facial hair as he has now retired from the service.

It’s believed to be the first time a member of the royal family has shown up for a royal wedding wearing a beard since 1893.

Grooms all around the world decide to keep their facial hair on their wedding day and according to men’s hairstylist and grooming expert Martial Vivot, men’s beauty on the day should be all about what they feel comfortable with.

“I always suggest that on your big day, the only thing that you should focus on is what makes you look your best,” Vivot told Brides.com.

“You never want to change your image on your wedding day. So if you are a beard guy, keep the beard.”
