Prince Harry’s secret phone call to ex before wedding

Her emotional face during the royal wedding ceremony spawned memes around the world, and it seems that wasn’t the only time Chelsy Davy shed tears over her ex Prince Harry marrying Meghan Markle, following reports of one last phone call between her and the royal.

Chelsy looked to be all smiles as she attended the wedding on Saturday, beaming as she entered St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle for the ceremony.

However insiders have revealed the South African blonde, who dated Harry for seven years between 2004 to 2011, was almost a no-show at the high-profile nuptials.

According to pals, Harry thought it was the right thing to do to invite Chelsy, along with his other ex, Cressida Bonas, to the ceremony, however not to the more intimate reception.

Just days before the ceremony though, Chelsy and Harry, 33, were said to have shared one last phone call, with the emotional jewellery designer tearing up as she spoke to her ex for the last time.

“It was their final call, a parting call in which they both acknowledged Harry was moving on,” a source told Vanity Fair.

“Chelsy was quite emotional about it all, she was in tears and almost didn’t go to the wedding. In the end, she went and promised Harry she wouldn’t try and gatecrash the party.”

Chelsy’s attendance definitely didn’t go unnoticed, especially when people clocked her less-than-ecstatic reaction during the ceremony.

There’s no doubt the 32-year-old holds a special place in Harry’s heart, with the royal meeting his first love when he was just 19 during his gap year in Cape Town.

Sharing the same sense of humour and fun-loving natures, Chelsy unofficially became part of the royal family as she met the queen and attended events such as Prince Charles’ 60th birthday.

However after seven years together – during which Chelsy moved to the UK to be by Harry’s side while he served in the military – the public scrutiny saw the law student pull the pin.

“It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable,” she told the Times. “I found it difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope. I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.”

While there were reports the couple reconciled for a quick fling in 2015, Chelsy’s fiercely private nature saw the couple drift their separate ways… with Harry meeting Meghan, 36, just a few months later.
