Princess Anne's subtle dig at Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton

Princess Anne generally keeps to herself, working hard in the name of her mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

However, the 68-year-old seems to have uncharacteristically rocked the boat in the new documentary about the work of Her Majesty, Queen of the World.

There’s an “absurd” habit that Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton appear to have which the Princess Royal doesn’t approve of – shaking hands.

“We never shook hands,” Anne explained. “The theory was that you couldn’t shake hands with everybody, so don’t start.

“So, I kind of stick to that, but I notice others don’t.”

It’s not just Meghan and Kate that shake hands on public engagements, their husbands Prince Harry and Prince William also do it.

The rules surrounding hand-shaking were previously quite strict, but during the 1970s the Queen relaxed the rules.

However, Princess Anne has found it hard to shake – no pun intended – the tradition.

“It’s not for me to say that it’s wrong, but I think the initial concept was patently absurd to start shaking hands,” she continued. “It seems to be that it’s become a shaking hands exercise rather than a walkabout.”

The only daughter of the monarch admitted she was “glad” she never started shaking hands, so it’s clearly a habit she never plans on picking up.

Not going to lie, we quite like the subtle sassiness coming from Princess Anne.
