The royals are subject to a whole heap of weird and wonderful rules, especially when it comes to what they wear.
While the fact Prince George can only wear shorts has been widely reported, have you ever noticed that we never see Princess Charlotte in a pair of pants either?
Now kidswear designer Rachel Riley — who has dressed five-year-old George — has shared her theory behind the reason why, saying that mum Kate Middleton chooses to put the young princess in traditional dresses so the photos don’t date.
“If they wear very simple things… it’s timeless in that you can’t really date a specific photo or put them in something that seems out of date,” she told The Telegraph.

The fashion expert explained the duchess chooses to put Charlotte in dresses so that the look stays classic, but she likely wears comfortable pants in private.
Charlotte, three, isn’t alone as royal experts have previously spilled on the “snobby” reason why George is also never seen in pants.
“Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on younger boys are one of the silent class markers that we have in England,”etiquette expert William Hanson told the Express in 2017.
Kate, 36, wears dresses for formal occasions, but has been spotted in jeans when out and about running errands.
