Princess Mary’s family plagued by health crisis

There’s been endless speculation that Princess Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik could become king and queen of Denmark before the year’s end.

And now a report claims the family is in crisis due to Princess Mary’s mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe, and her increasing struggles with her health.

It’s been reported the 78-year-old monarch has had to pull out of several events recently due to her battle with osteoporosis, and this combined with her long-term battle with spinal stenosis, has seen her relying more on the Aussie-born princess than ever.

“Everything is changing for Mary and Fred,” a source told Woman’s Day.

“With Margerethe having her own health problems, there’s even more for them to take on.”

Queen Margrethe’s increasing need for support from Mary and Frederik comes after a tragic few months for the family.

In February, the queen’s consort Prince Henrik passed away after a battle with dementia, and following a hospitalisation the month before for a lung infection.

With Prince Frederik present at his father’s bedside at Fredensborg Castle at the time, the tragic death was said to have left Princess Mary devastated.

With Mary notoriously close to Queen Margrethe, insiders say it’s fallen on the Tasmanian-born princess to be there to shoulder some of the royal duties and lessen the pressure on the monarch.

But with responsibilities of her own, including being a doting mum to her children Christian, 12, Isabella, 11 and seven-year-old twins Vincent and Josephine, insiders say Princess Mary is feeling the pressure of her increasing duties.

“[Mary] knows that there’s going to be even greater pressure on her family in the coming months and she’s desperately hoping she will be able to shield her family from any heartache,” adds the source.
