Princess Mary melts hearts with incredibly romantic speech for Frederik’s 50th

It’s the royal love story that captured hearts long before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were on the scene, and Princess Mary has candidly laid her heart bare during an utterly romantic speech to her husband Prince Frederik on his 50th birthday.

The Aussie-born royal, who famously met the Danish prince at a popular nightclub during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, gave the moving speech at her husband’s birthday party at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.

Mary, who is notoriously private about her family life, spoke in both Danish and English as she celebrated her husband’s milestone, and revealed heartfelt details about how they fell in love and overcame their “unsure steps” during the early days of their romance.

“I am so happy you swept me off my feet,” she said in front of the crowded room.

“And we dared to fall for each other not for a moment, but for life. And life with you is never boring.”

Mary’s speech wasn’t all romance though, with the Crown Princess joking about Frederik’s predictable sense of humour and how she’s “simply lost count of the amount of times that you have told the same joke over and over again”.

The mum, who shares parenting duties of their kids Prince Christian, 12, Princess Isabella, ten, and seven-year-old twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent with Frederik, also paid tribute to the prince’s incredible devotion as a dad.

“They describe you as sweet, fun, wonderful, wise, brave, helpful, cool and handsome,” Mary explained in the moving speech.

“You’re their everything. They know that your believe in them even when they don’t believe in themselves.”

With the party hosted by Frederik’s mum, Queen Margrethe, Mary made sure his late father, Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark, who passed away in February was also part of the occasion.

“And on the rare occasion you get cross, you quickly put it behind you, just as your father did,” Mary revealed.

“You allow yourself to be carried away by our children. You easily find your inner child and your children love it when that side of your takes over through imagination, play, and games.”
