Queen left ‘absolutely fuming’ over false death reports

His ill health has made headlines recently, but Prince Philip became the subject of false death reports after rumours swept the internet over the weekend.

The 97-year-old is currently recovering from a hip operation in April, however the royal began trending on Twitter on Friday following claims he had passed away.

With Prince Philip remaining at Sandringham while the Queen was holidaying in Balmoral, sources say the monarch was ‘absolutely fuming’ when she was told of the reports.

Buckingham Palace was said to have been flooded with calls from concerned members of the public, leaving Her Majesty forced to call her husband for a tense conversation, reports the Sun.

“They both agreed there was little they could do but they are very, very annoyed,” a source told the publication.

“The Queen is absolutely fuming over this and thinks it’s disgraceful.”

This isn’t the first time the 92-year-old monarch has been forced to shut down false death reports.

Last May the Queen called an emergency meeting at Buckingham Palace, with speculation mounting that an announcement was to be made of Prince Philip’s passing.

Instead, however, it was revealed that the royal consort was simply retiring from public duties – but not before the public had a field day with wild theories.

“You can safely assume the Queen and Prince Philip are not dead” and that the meeting is “not about the health of the Queen or Prince Philip”, the BBC’s royal correspondent Peter Hunt said at the time.
