She may have already spent Christmas day with the royal family and appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the rest of the clan twice now, but it’s been reported that Meghan Markle is yet to have her ‘initiation’ into the House of Windsor.

The Queen is apparently set to officially welcome the newly-crowed Duchess of Sussex into the fold this summer.

Despite the fact the pair have already been on their first official royal engagement together to visit Cheshire, it seems Her Majesty has other plans for making the 37-year-old former Suits actress feel like she’s part of the family.

It was recently announced that Prince Harry and his new wife would be visiting the 92-year-old Queen at her Scotland residence, Balmoral, this summer.

“An invitation to Balmoral, where the Queen is expected to remain until September, is traditionally part of the initiation into the Royal family,” Richard Fitzwilliams told the Express in London.

Indeed, it’s been a rite of passage for many royal brides throughout the decades, with Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson both visiting the Queen regularly at the sprawling estate in the Highlands.

It’s believed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will make the journey to Scotland in the coming days, so they can enjoy the good weather with the prince’s grandmother.

The news comes just days after the Queen released a sweet message for Meghan Markle’s 37th birthday.

A message from Her Majesty to the Duchess of Sussex was posted to the royal family’s official Instagram account to mark the occasion.

“Happy Birthday to HRH The Duchess of Sussex! #HappyBirthdayHRH,” it read.

Meghan spent her first birthday as a royal attending the London nuptials of Prince Harry’s best friend Charlie van Straubenzee and his bride, Daisy Jenkins.
