It was the incredible five-set match that was without question, one of the best Australian Open Grand Finals we’ve ever seen.
What’s still in question though, is the dubious appearance of a mystery brown patch that appeared at Rafael Nadal’s feet during his final set against Roger Federer.
Although the official party line is that Nadal was almost the target of a stealth bird bomber, Twitter is still buzzing over the appearance of the suspicious patch.
While we’ve heard of people doing nervous wees, could a stressed spew be to blame?
Eagled eyed tennis fans were quick to question the substance, which was deftly cleared away by a ball boy.
Did Nadal really just make a teenager clean up his spit/vomit ?— Dodds (@DoddsHHQ) January 29, 2017
@Rafasgirlalways The comms said the mess cleaned up by the ballboy had come from a bird. (!) Thank goodness Rafa wasn't under it.— Cynthia Tanner (@CJSTanner) January 29, 2017
We guess the only people who will ever know are Nadal and that poor ball boy…
