The real reason The Wiggles stars Emma and Lachy split

Fans were shocked when Emma Watkins and Lachlan Gillespie announced at the start of the month that they had decided to end their marriage.

However, friends of the pair claim the writing was on the wall straight after they said ‘I do’.

“I know the cracks started to appear almost immediately,” a friend told Woman’s Day.

“I think Em wanted this marriage for such a long time that it was always going to be hard to live up to the dream.

“Ultimately, the fairytale just didn’t match up with the reality.”

Another friend told Who magazine that Lachy is ‘devastated’ over the split and was blindsided.

“Things hadn’t been right between Em and Lachy for a while but he really thought they could work through it,” the source said.

The couple released a joint statement over Instagram, where they admitted that they had privately been ‘navigating through a trial seperation’ for the past six months.

They added that throughout their separation, performing shows together has been a “source of joy” and embracing their split as “a very positive change in [their] relationship”.

“Our incredible friendship has been strengthened throughout this time and what we have discovered is that, more than ever, first and foremost we love and adore performing as Emma and Lachy in The Wiggles and having the privilege of celebrating this happiness with extraordinary families around the world,” the statement said.

“We have chosen a different path to travel in our personal lives, but please know that we are stronger than ever and we can’t wait to see you at a show soon.”

The couple had hardly spent any days apart since joining The Wiggles in 2012.

Speaking to Stellar in 2017, Emma said the only day they didn’t see each other was Christmas Day.

“We get to be with each other every single day of the year, except for Christmas Day, which I spend in Sydney and Lachy spends in Brisbane with his family,” she said.

Lachy went on to claim that working together and being married meant their got no time to themselves.

Earlier this year Emma was forced to pull out of the group’s tour because of her battle with endometriosis.
