The real reason Prince George always wears shorts

When Prince George arrived at St Mary’s Hospital to meet his baby brother for the first time earlier this week, the young royal was wearing something we’ve often seen him in – a pair of tailored shorts.

While the four-year-old was clearly in his school uniform, it’s a look we’ve seen on him during public appearances too – and there’s a good reason for that.

“It’s a very English thing to to dress a young boy in shorts,” royal expert William Hanson told Harper’s Bazaar.

“Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers.”

According to etiquette experts, it appears a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered “middle class.”

While wearing shorts – especially in the chilly British temps – might seem like an odd choice, it’s something George’s notoriously conservative mum Kate is abiding by.

“No self-respecting aristo or royal would want to be considered suburban – even the Duchess of Cambridge,” added William.

So when can we expect to see Prince George finally ditching the shorts for more grown up pants?

According to experts, it won’t be until the ripe old age of eight or nine.

Luckily, he won’t be the only one in the family showing off his knees – it’s likely the newest arrival to the royal family – baby boy Cambridge – will follow suit, too!
