Former Hollywood A-list couple Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck announced their plans to divorce back in June 2015, but yet, three years on and the couple are still technically married.
The couple’s decision to separate came just days after their ten-year wedding anniversary with a public statement announcing the ‘difficult decision to divorce’ and their commitment to remain amicable for the sake of their three children, Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9 and Samuel, 6.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time,” the public statement read.
So far the pair has been very successful at remaining friends leaving many fans still hopeful that one day they may reunite, especially considering their divorce was never finalised – and still isn’t.
However, with Jennifer Garner making a solo appearance to receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame recently and Ben introducing his new flame, a 22-year-old Playboy model Shauna Sexton, there is little chance the two are considering getting back together.
So what’s the hold up with the divorce, you ask?
Well, it seems the pair took some time to see if things could work out again before officially filing the divorce papers in April 2017.
However, rather than proceed with the legalities, the divorce was put on hold once again by Jennifer who is reportedly uneasy about progressing with their divorce due to her ex-husband’s struggles with sobriety.
“The one thing she’s not flexible on is sobriety. Jen is hesitant to sign off until she’s certain that the kids will be in the best hands at all time. Finalizing the divorce has been a long process because of it,” a source close to the actress told Us Weekly.
“Jen just isn’t willing to settle the custody issues until she’s 100 percent certain that he’s clean…she’ll wait for him to prove he is taking it very seriously.”
Ben has since been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and working on mediation to ensure he maintains his personal health and can be there for those he loves, according to Us Weekly.
However, now that it’s reaching the point where the court is threatening to dismiss their case for ‘delay in prosecution’ we might eventually see this divorce get finalised. #Crushed.
