This retro hair trend is making a major comeback

Soft and thick are not words you’d associate with hair mousse.

But according to celebrity stylist Max May, that’s exactly what you’re going to get with the retro beauty product.

The Aussie hair king said the foam — best known for giving crunchy curls and extreme volume — is nothing like it’s ’80s legacy.

“Mousse never really went out of fashion for hairstylists, we’ve always used it.” Max told Yahoo Lifestyle. “We know what we’re going to get as it naturally expands the hair.”

Mousse nowadays is not used to gain volume, and instead is making trends thanks to its thickening abilities.

“It’s not about forcing the hair to be massive, that’s only going to drop later,” Max explained.

“Mousse will just give hair a little bit more presence, creating the same thickness from root to tip. Other products only target the ends, which makes hair look a bit limp.”

Best of all, the new ambassador for TRESemmé said it’s super easy to use, meaning you can incorporate it into your routine easily for a simple hair transformation.

“It’s fast and foolproof, there’s no technique to it. Mousse, you just put it everywhere, on wet or dry hair. It’s fab,” he said.

Max recommends after applying, you flip your head upside down, grab a paddle brush and blow dry that way.

“We all want great hair but we don’t have a lot of time or expertise so I think it’s all about keeping things as simple possible,” he revealed.

“By that I mean having a good shampoo and conditioner, such as the new Repair & Protect 7 range, that’s going to clean and protect your hair, then just having a really basic style routine and sticking with it.”

So, will you give mousse another chance?
